The Grinch may despise Christmas and happy people, but in Australia, Christmas comes with sun, sand, and Macca’s. For fans, summer days are never complete without a visit to McDonald’s, and the mean, green grump is determined to ruin the fun. Yet, no matter his schemes, the season only shines brighter.

McDonald’s Australia, in partnership with Wieden+Kennedy Sydney, is bringing the Grinch Meal platform to the land down under following a successful debut in Canada. Available nationwide from November 19, the campaign film I’m Ruinin’ It, directed by Jesse James McElroy, shows the Grinch spying on the cheerful Australians of “Australiaville” and plotting to spoil their sunny holiday season.
In a mischievous twist, the Grinch’s adult meal includes collectible snow globes featuring himself, Birdie, Hamburglar, or Grimace—filled with sand to mock the season—and a frozen sour drink that turns green thanks to popping pearls he secretly adds. All of it comes in a box disguised as a normal Christmas gift, proving he’s going all out to ruin the joy.
His antics spill across OOH and social media, with iconic green visuals and cheeky slogans like “It’s Grinch Boy Summer” and “Unhappy Holidays!” On Instagram, the Grinch takes over McDonald’s Australia’s page, grumbling about the sunny Christmas with lines such as, “its supposed to snow at Christmas, y dis place so stupid?”
Despite his best efforts, the campaign shows that nothing can dampen the Aussie summer spirit. With a mix of humor, mischief, and festive fun, McDonald’s and Wieden+Kennedy Sydney have created a campaign that’s as playful as it is memorable—proving that even the Grinch can’t stop Macca’s summer joy.
